deciding to start my masters in 2012. so much for my obligatory early twenties travel/transient period. Might start reading heaps more ethnic, female, and marxist authors, so I can feel better about being a solipsistic white boy who’s merely pursuing his own interests and education.
(feel free to recommend some writers who fit the bill)

hookedonsemiotics asked: Deleuze question: is there an actual source for "when you're trapped in the dream of the other, you're fucked"? Or is it a phantom internet quote?

i’m writing a christmas card to my grandfather, and feel I should insert something ‘poignant’ because this is probably the last card i’ll get to write to him, but errr, I just finished watching Rush Hour 2 and two episodes of The Inbetweeners, so I’m in no mood for profundity. Maybe I should dig out an old VHS copy of Tuesday’s With Morrie.

I live in Australia, and a subscription by no means breaks the bank. Sometimes, when I fall behind, I try to justify it by getting all: “Whateverrrrr. I don’t need to read what these fuckin’ cultural elitists have to say.”

I thought I was making some good progress, but The Talk of the Town in the issue I’ve just unwrapped is all about the population hitting seven billion. I feel people were cramming facebook full of that crap a good six-eight weeks ago? Honestly, if I had to go to the toilet more often I’d be well and truly up to date with my subscriptions. Should move to India or eat more fibre or...

Chris: I fell 6 months behind once
Me: I'm not sure I would've ever recovered
Me: Being two months behind is painful
Me: what have I been doing?
Me: "thinking about 9/11"
Chris: is that a poem?

Going to spend the summer reading, and maybe reviewing, classic Australian novels that I should have already read. This is probably going to alienate my American followers, but I don’t care too much. First up is Wake in Fright by Kenneth Cook—turned into a film and marketed to American audiences as:

In his manifesto, the Norway murderer does mention that his favourite blog is Atlas Shrugs
crusaderadolescent:
I’m trying to think of a joke that involves the phrase “the noble armpit hair of feminists” but I think just that alone is sufficient.
I had a girl in a literature tutorial who always, and only, made the most obvious, copy-book feministic analyses on the novels in the curriculum. I remarked to a friend that: “I bet she even shaves her pits with occam’s...

After the dreadlocked feller left, a ‘recovering’ ice addict sat down and yapped at me for ages about how all his possessions got stolen at rehab a week ago; how he’s going to jail in a few weeks and is desperately trying to buff himself up, so he doesn’t end up being someone’s bitch. For good measure, he gave me the typical junkie “i’m a good person, I...

extract from my diary
“Suited/spectacled man to my left keeps referencing Family Guy and singing the chorus to Ruby Tuesday. Now he’s talking about Julia Gillard’s pay-rise: ‘She earns more than any politician in the western world, now’—will consult the internet when I get home to check if this is accurate. Drinks are fairly cheap: $3.50 for a pot of VB. The lady at the bar asked if...
